The battle for honours at Quintas Capital Calves Week 2026 will go down to Friday's final race after another closely contested day on the waters of Roaringwater Bay left several championships delicately poised.
Thursday's lighter westerly breeze provided a marked contrast to Wednesday's Fastnet Rock Race, placing greater emphasis on tactics, clean starts and minimising mistakes around the committee boat courses. While some class leaders strengthened their grip on the regatta, others saw their margins trimmed ahead of what is forecast to be the lightest day of the week.

The fleet raced separate committee boat courses, with Classes Zero, One, Two and Whitesail One contesting a six-leg course via Marks 4 and 3, Cusheen and Goat Island, while Classes Three, Four and Whitesail Two sailed a variation using Mark 1.
Results are provisional and remain subject to protest.
Class Zero: Waterfront Regains Momentum

Simon Coveney's Waterfront returned to winning form in IRC Class Zero, edging Rockabill VI by just 37 seconds on corrected time, with El Syd third.
The victory restores Waterfront to the top of the IRC standings on five points, ahead of El Syd on 7.5 and Rockabill VI on eight, setting up an absorbing three-way contest for Friday's finale.

ORC produced another close finish. Waterfront again took the honours, this time by only 18 seconds from Rockabill VI, while Joyride completed the podium. Despite finishing second, Rockabill VI retains the overall ORC lead by a single point from Waterfront.

ECHO told yet another story. Prima Forte won Thursday's race to move into a share of the overall lead on eight points with Out of Office, while Waterfront sits just one point further back in third. The result leaves three boats separated by a single point heading into the final day.
Class One: Chimaera Draws Level

The IRC victory came by one minute 21 seconds over Storm, drawing the two yachts level at the top of the overall standings on six points apiece after three races. Artful DodJer's retirement proved costly, dropping the former series leader to third overall.

ORC also went the way of Chimaera, which defeated Tighey Boy by three minutes on corrected time to extend its overall advantage in that handicap.

In ECHO, Powder Monkey claimed race honours, but sixth place was enough for Growler to retain the overall lead. Just two points separate Growler, Tighey Boy and Powder Monkey, ensuring another championship battle that remains wide open.
Class Two: Swuzzlebubble Extends IRC Advantage
Swuzzlebubble strengthened its position at the top of IRC Class Two with another race victory, finishing 45 seconds ahead of Black Velvet, with Reavra Too third.
The result extends Swuzzlebubble's overall lead to 5.5 points, although Prince of Tides remains within striking distance in second.

Under ORC, Black Velvet reversed the order, beating Ghostraider by one minute 12 seconds while Ghostraider retained the overall championship lead after three races.
ECHO produced perhaps the closest finish of the day, with Black Velvet defeating Reavra Too by just five seconds on corrected time. Despite finishing third, Prince of Tides continues to lead the overall standings by two points.
Class Three: Tuco Still the Boat to Beat

Class Three continues to provide some of the closest racing of the regatta.
Illegal won Thursday's IRC race, but Tuco's second place was enough to preserve its overall series lead by two points, with 3 Cheers remaining firmly in contention.
Under ORC, however, Tuco remained unbeaten, completing a third straight victory to establish a commanding championship lead.
ECHO produced yet another different winner. Chatterbox claimed Thursday's race, moving to the top of the overall standings ahead of 3 Cheers, while Muscateer and Excelsior remain within striking distance. Just eight points separate the top five boats, ensuring the title remains very much alive.

Bon Journo Part Deux continued its flawless IRC campaign with a third consecutive victory and now enjoys a commanding overall lead.
Behind the leader, the contest remains considerably tighter. Shelly D finished second on Thursday to draw level on points with Toroloco, setting up an intriguing battle for the remaining podium places.
In ECHO, Shelly D claimed race honours, but Toroloco's consistency keeps it at the head of the championship after three races.

Whitesail One: Indulgence Stays Unbeaten

Indulgence maintained its perfect IRC record with a third successive race victory to open a five-point lead heading into Friday.
Behind the leader, Magnet, Elantic, Rosmarina and Aisling remain locked in a close fight for the remaining podium places.
ORC honours went to Rosmarina, reducing Vivid's overall lead to just a single point.
ECHO also remains finely balanced, with Elantic and Magnet tied on nine points at the top of the standings after three races.
Whitesail Two: Lady Min Faces Final-Day Duel

Whitesail Two promises one of Friday's most compelling championship battles.
Mischief won Thursday's IRC race by just 29 seconds from Cove Pirates, with Lady Min only another five seconds behind in third.
Those margins leave Lady Min and Mischief tied on five points overall, with Lady Min leading on countback. Cove Pirates remains well placed in third.
ECHO has developed into an equally close contest. Full Pelt strengthened its overall lead with victory on Thursday, but Lornadrew, Cove Pirates, Lady Min and Orca 2 all remain within striking distance heading into the final race.

Final-Day Forecast
Friday's concluding race is expected to be sailed in the lightest winds of the week, presenting an entirely different challenge from Wednesday's breezy Fastnet Rock Race and Thursday's moderate conditions.
With championship leaders separated by just one or two points across several classes, patience, clean starts and finding pressure are likely to prove more valuable than outright boat speed. Among the closest overnight contests are Waterfront, El Syd and Rockabill VI in IRC Zero, Chimaera and Storm in IRC One, Tuco and Illegal in IRC Three, and Lady Min and Mischief in Whitesail IRC Two.
If the forecast proves accurate, the lightest breeze of the regatta could produce its most dramatic racing yet.
