New Isle of Man Vessel Will 'Usher in New Standard' for Ferry Travel

Construction of Manxman is underway. As above a GCI image of the ropax which is been built in a South Korean shipyard and is due to enter on the Irish Sea in 2023.

The Isle of Man Steam Packet's managing director claims a new flagship vessel will usher in a new standard of ferry travel.

Construction is underway on the Manxman, (see: Shipyards steel-cutting ceremony) and which is expected to start operating in 2023.

The newbuild ro-pax will replace the Ben-my-Chree and with the project costing around £78m.

Brian Thomson says the new ferry will be an exciting upgrade.

Calves Week Regatta takes place in Schull in early August, continuing the annual tradition in West Cork since the inception of the Schull Harbour Sailing Club in 1884.

In more recent years, a more compact schedule as an alternative to the older two-week even has proved popular.

The four-day Calves Week Championships with the usual mix of courses taking in the Fastnet Rock and many of Carbery's Hundred Isles, together with laid courses in Roaringwater Bay is one of Irish sailing's enduring fixtures.

A daily prize-giving takes place on Main Street in Schull, which sees a nautical festival theme for the village organised by local businesses.

West Cork's Calves Week Regatta is traditionally held in the first week in August. In 2024, it runs from Tuesday, August 6 to Friday, August 9.
