Irish Figaro champion solo sailor Tom Dolan secured second place in the IMOCA 60 class at the Rolex Fastnet Race's centenary edition.
Dolan and the Team Charal crew raced closely with the victor Association Petits Princes–Quéguiner. The battle continued from Fastnet Rock to the finish in Cherbourg.
They finished just two miles behind the winning boat, helmed by 29-year-old Elodie Bonafous. “We’re really happy with how the race went,” Dolan said.
He added, “We put a lot of work into weather routing and strategy. Fair play to Petits Princes–Quéguiner—they raced us hard all the way to the finish.”
Dolan noted the mental challenges of a closely contested race. “It can be tough on your mentality, racing neck and neck for so long,” he commented.
This performance provides a confidence boost for Dolan as he readies to defend his title in the upcoming Solitaire du Figaro. The first leg of the 2025 edition sets sail from Rouen on September 7th.
