Freedom of Galway for VOR team?

Freedom of Galway for VOR team?
Enda O'Coineen, John Killeen and Eamonn Conneely are in line to receive the freedom of the city of Galway, but the timing of the award is making waves. A row is brewing over when the mayor proposes to bestow the award on the Volvo Ocean Race stopover team.

The full story is here, in the pages of the Galway Advertiser.

The proposed title, which would see the trio join freemen, the likes of Pope John Paul II and Ronald Reagan, will be discussed at a council meeting on Monday, requiring a unanimous vote from councillors to be carried.

But it's the timing, not the title, that is up for discussion. The Mayor wishes to make the presentation at his mayoral ball, a charity event, which other councillors may wish to retain as a non-political event.
