Skelligs Line-Up — John Treanor’s NMD43 Cristina joins a growing 12-boat entry for the 2026 Inishtearaght Skelligs Race, with defending champion Aurelia among those confirmed to start.

John Treanor’s new NMD43 Cristina has entered the 2026 Inishtearaght Skelligs Race.

The National Yacht Club/Royal Irish entry becomes the second Dun Laoghaire-based boat on the entry list.

The entry list now stands at 12 boats, organisers confirm.

Defending champion Chris Power-Smith will return aboard his J/122 Aurelia from Royal St George Yacht Club.

The biennial offshore race has been rebranded the Inishtearaght Skelligs Race for 2026.

The race will start at 19:30 on Friday, 29 May.

Depending on conditions, the fleet will sail either a 240-nautical-mile course around Inishtearaght Island or a shorter 190-mile route rounding the Great Skellig (Skellig Michael).

Kinsale Yacht Club's rear commodore Dave Cullinane says the route offers a demanding offshore challenge along the coast of West Cork and Kerry.

Cantor Fitzgerald Ireland is the race’s title sponsor for 2026.

Early entries include cruiser-racers such as Prime Suspect, White Tiger, Katanca, Jalapeno, Artful DodJer, Chancer, Meridian and Cinnamon Girl.

Kinsale Yacht Club officials say interest is strong and expect more entries, particularly from Round Ireland Race competitors.

About Kinsale Yacht Club's Inishtearaght Offshore Yacht Race

To meet growing demand for offshore racing, Kinsale Yacht Club Commodore Matthias Hellstern along with Dave Cullinane (SCORA Vice-Commodore) launched the inaugural Inishtearaght Race in Kinsale on Wednesday, December 23rd in 2021.

The race is a new south coast offshore race to be held biennially commencing in 2022.

The course will be approximately 240nm long and will run along the spectacular coast of West Cork and Kerry, round Inistearaght island and back to Kinsale. The first race start is scheduled for Friday, 20th May 2022 with a fleet of seven entries for the first race.

The Thuillier family have kindly allowed the oldest trophy in Kinsale YC to be presented as the line honours trophy for the race. The Thuillier Cup is 150 years old, having been originally presented by the Royal Enniskillen Fusiliers in 1871 and won by Michael Thuillier. The cup was presented to Kinsale YC by the Thuillier family to acknowledge the long tradition of yacht racing in Kinsale.
