Galway Stop 'Worth Euro 80 Million'

Fáilte Ireland officially puts a figure on the the economic impact of 2009's major sailing event this week when the tourism body values the Galway stopover of the Volvo Ocean Race. The report carried out by Deloitte will show the global yacht race created 80m in revenue, Galway Tourism has already revealed.

The City of the Tribes has been short-listed as a stopover for the next leg of the race that starts in Alicante in two years time. There is no news of another Irish yacht entry and it appears likely that stopover status wil only be conferred by race organisers if an entry in to the race is forthcoming.

Redmond O'Donoghue, Chairman, of Failte Ireland will be joined by Enda O'Coineen, Chairman and John Killeen, President of Let's Do It Global  will be in in Dublin for the announcement this Friday.
