'Cinnamon Girl' to miss Fastnet

'Cinnamon Girl' to miss Fastnet

Royal Cork's Cian McCarthy will not start in this weekend's Fastnet race because his brand new Class 40 yacht 'Cinnamon Girl ' is still to hit the water. The solo sailor is focused instead on October 18th, the date for the Route de Chocolat, a transatlantic race from France to Mexico. The keel is to go on the boat tomorrow (Friday) and McCarthy hopes to have Cinnamon Girl in the water for the first time at the weekend. After initial trials the boat, the first of a new design from Merfyn Owen will be positioned to Cork in September as part of his 1,000 mile qualification sail prior to the Transatlantic race.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
