Cork sailors lead three fleets

20th August 2009
Cork sailors lead three fleets
Two seconds and a first gave Cork sailor Seafra Guilfoyle the lead at halfway stage of the Mitsubish Optimist National Championships today. The Crosshaven teen, who still has two years left in the Optimist, discarded his jittery 26th from the first race to count only top four finishes, and now has a healthy cushion of 16 points.

American Roger Dorr moves up one to second, while overnight leader Tara Flood slipped out of the top three today, handing the last spot on the podium to Kinsale sailor Colm O'Regan.

It's another Crosshaven name on top of the silver fleet, where Marc Cudmore leads, and Royal Cork boast three winners at the halfway stage with 12-year-old Peter McCann heading the junior gold fleet, where Nicholas Delamer of Howth leads the silver fleet.

Racing got underway at 11am in a light westerly breeze which built throughout the day. The regatta fleet had no racing today but the senior and junior fleets managed three races.
