Hot Toddy time for GPs at Donaghadee SC

15th October 2009
Hot Toddy time for GPs at Donaghadee SC
The Irish GP14 fleet returned to Donaghadee Sailing Club for the first time in 12 years to a very welcome return and with bonus points available for Goacher Sails League, competition was fierce with the winner of fleet receiving a kindly donated genoa as a reward. Conditions throughout the event varied from light and shifty with lots of tide on day 1 to wet and wild on day 2.

Although the conditions varied the end result did not with Tim Corcoran and Brendan Brogan from Sligo Yacht Club winning their fifth from a possible seven events of this year’s circuit and with it securing Goacher Sails Gold Fleet honours for the season.

However, they were pushed close during the Hot Toddy with John and Donal McGuiness from Moville Sailing Club only 1 point behind, with new comers Sam Hunt and Richard Murphy from Royal St George a further 3 behind.

A consistent set of results brought Simon Cully and Libby Tierney from Blessington Sailing Club not only Silver Fleet honours for this event but the Goacher Sails Silver League for the season.

Michael Collender and Brian Walker from Mullingar Sailing Club beat of club mates Stuart McCormack and Susie Whyte for Bronze Fleet honours, but it wasn’t enough to stop the later from winning Goacher Sails Bronze League title for the season.

At the prize giving GP14 Association of Ireland President Donal McGuiness stated “The total number of entries for the 2009 season was a record 244. Our aim will be as ever, to top that next year. It is not an idle boast that we are the premier dinghy class in Ireland. I wish to thank the sponsors of our leagues this year – Goacher Sails – for their generous sponsorship of a Genoa for each of the fleet winners."
