SailGP will open its 2027 championship season in Hong Kong as the foiling series expands to a 13-event global calendar. The Hong Kong Sail Grand Prix is scheduled for January 23-24, 2027, on Victoria Harbour and marks the championship’s first event in the city.

The 2027 calendar spans Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, South America and the Middle East. San Francisco also returns to the schedule after a one-season absence.

SailGP chief executive and co-founder Sir Russell Coutts described the new season as a major step forward for the championship. “SailGP's 2027 Season represents a major step forward – reflecting both the scale of our ambition, and the strength of the demand we’re seeing from cities and partners globally wanting to be part of the championship,” he said.

Coutts said Hong Kong offered a strong fit for SailGP’s close-to-shore racing format. “Hong Kong is a world-class destination for SailGP – and a venue we expect to deliver strong commercial interest and an unmatched fan experience,” he said.

“Victoria Harbour is built for the close-to-shore stadium racing SailGP is becoming known for around the globe.”

Hong Kong’s Under Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Raistlin Lau, said the event had been awarded “M” Mark status, recognising its international standing. “This event will engage our local community in the exhilaration of world-class foiling catamarans, while offering a global stage to showcase our vibrant harbourfront,” he said.

Following Hong Kong, the championship will travel to Perth before beginning a North American leg including San Francisco, Bermuda, Halifax and New York. The European schedule will include Britain, Germany and Spain before an Italian venue is confirmed later this month.

The season will conclude with events in Rio de Janeiro and Dubai, with the Grand Final venue yet to be announced. SailGP said several venues are expected to remain on the calendar beyond 2027 through long-term hosting agreements designed to strengthen fan engagement and commercial partnerships.
