News that the yacht Moonduster, once owned by the late Denis Doyle of Crosshaven had been lost this month has led to confusion in some quarters about which boat in the series of Moondusters owned by Doyle had been sunk by cyclone Mick in the South Pacific.
Doyle owned four different Moondusters in his long career. His last boat, arguably the best known, a varnished Frers 51, was sold to Norway a few years ago where she is still sailing and in excellent condition. His second boat, however, also known as the 'Blue' Moonduster, a 47' Sparkman and Stevens one-off and a member of the Irish Admiral Cup team in 1973 and 1975 was lost in Fiji.
