World Sailing has confirmed dates for the 2027 World Sailing Championships, setting up a landmark year for the sport. The global event will span two venues and feature all 10 Olympic disciplines alongside Para Inclusive sailing. Fortaleza, Brazil, will host the opening regatta from 15–23 January. The championships will then move to Gdynia, Poland, from 22 July to 1 August.
The split format places the event within a packed international calendar. The Ocean Race is scheduled to start in Alicante in January and finish in Amaala in June. The America’s Cup will follow in Naples in July, while SailGP runs throughout the year.
World Sailing President Quanhai Li said the championships would be a defining moment. “The 2027 World Sailing Championships will be a landmark moment for our sport,” he said. “Hosted by Fortaleza and Gdynia, athletes will compete in exceptional sailing conditions while demonstrating the global reach and inclusivity of sailing. “Combined with The Ocean Race and The America’s Cup in the same year, 2027 will be an extraordinary celebration for athletes, fans and communities around the world.”
Fortaleza will stage one-person Olympic events, including windsurfing, kite and dinghy classes, along with Para Inclusive categories. The Brazilian leg is backed by federal and municipal authorities and will be organised by the Brazilian Sailing Confederation.
Gdynia will host two-person events, including skiff, mixed dinghy and mixed multihull competitions, alongside Para Inclusive racing. The Polish Yachting Association will lead the delivery of the Baltic regatta as part of the annual Gdynia Sailing Days festival.
