Big boat racing in Class 0 is set for a significant revival on Ireland’s east coast in 2026.
Two competitive new 43‑footers are due to join the fleet — a Sydney 43 GTS from Greystones and Johnny Treanor’s latest acquisition, the NMD 43 Albator.

These two evenly matched racers are expected to bring fresh energy to the class, competing directly against the current Coastal Class Dun Laoghaire Regatta champion, Checkmate XX, a First 50 owned by Nigel Biggs, which is larger but lower rated.

A 43–foot racing yacht, a Sydney 43 GTS, is on its way to Ireland and is expected to arrive in Greystones Harbour by mid‑December, according to Afloat sources.
The Greystones vessel is a sister ship to the French yacht Long Courrier, which finished second overall in the Fastnet Race this year, and will add some extra spice to the Irish offshore scene in 2026.
It is of the design type Sydney 43 GTS by Ker Yacht Design. The yacht features a 13.09m LOA, 4.20m beam and 2.75m draft.
A campaign source said the boat “may contest the 2026 Round Ireland Race subject to suitability".

These boats will also face strong competition from several J/Boat contenders. These include Chris Power Smith’s J/122 Aurelia and Bob Rendell’s newly acquired J/122, formerly Jelly Baby, which will race under a new name.
The J/112e Big Picture, campaigned by Michael and Richie Evans, is also expected to feature strongly.

Cross‑Channel and offshore events will see the return of other heavy hitters, including the Welsh J/122 Mojito, the Lombard 46 Pata Negra — ISORA’s current overall champion — and the J/125 Jacknife.
There is also speculation that Pete Smyth’s Ker 46 Searcher may return from the Mediterranean to rejoin the Dublin Bay competition.
The bolstered lineup marks a welcome boost for the Irish Sea Offshore Racing Association (ISORA) and signals a competitive season ahead for Class 0 enthusiasts.
