Pata Negra claimed both line honours and provisional IRC overall victory in Saturday’s ISORA offshore race from Holyhead to Dún Laoghaire, sealing the win with a spinnaker finish on Dublin Bay.
The Lombard 46, campaigned by Andrew and Sam Hall from Pwllheli Sailing Club, also secured the IRC Zero class win after a gentle crossing in light to moderate conditions and a spinnaker finish on Dublin Bay.
ReQuest, the JPK 10.30 carrying an IRC rating of 1.022, finished second overall on corrected time in 6h 58m 35s and took victory in IRC Class One.
John Malone’s JPK 10.30 Loinnir completed the podium with a corrected time of 7h 04m 46s and claimed the Two-Handed division win.
Irish Boats Feature Prominently
Despite the Welsh win, Irish entries filled much of the top seven in the provisional rankings.
Royal Irish Yacht Club’s Cristina placed fifth overall after finishing in an elapsed time of 6h 05m 18s. Darling XX and Pillaban also featured prominently in the corrected standings.
The tracker showed several boats covering close to the nominal 55-nautical-mile course distance, although tactical routing and tidal positioning appeared to create variations in sailed mileage.
Tight Corrected Margins
The race produced compressed IRC corrected times through the leading group. Less than 32 minutes separated the top six boats on corrected handicap after more than six hours of racing.
The provisional IRC overall leaderboard was:
- Pata Negra – 6h 48m 39s corrected
- ReQuest – 6h 58m 35s
- Loinnir – 7h 04m 46s
- Finally – 7h 18m 19s
- Cristina – 7h 19m 27s
- Darling xx – 7h 20m 38s
- Pillaban – 7h 35m 20s
Results (via tracker) remain provisional pending publication of official results by ISORA race management that will appear below.
