Island Return — The Range Rover Sardinia Cup fleet will race off Porto Cervo as the historic yacht club team regatta returns after a 14-year absence

Sardinia Cup will return this summer after a 14-year absence, with 20 boats already entered for the revived regatta in Porto Cervo. The event, hosted by Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, will take place from 31 May to 7 June.

Ten yacht club teams from across Europe will compete in the regatta’s two divisions, Sardinia Cup Class 1 and Class 2. The biennial event will alternate with the Admiral’s Cup and follows a similar format, allowing teams to race with the same boats and crew configurations. Organisers confirmed that each team must include at least one female sailor and one sailor under 25.

International entries include the Royal Ocean Racing Club, Yacht Club de France, Bayerischer Yacht Club and the Turkish Offshore Racing Sports Club. The Italian clubs that entered include Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia, Yacht Club Repubblica Marinara di Pisa, Yacht Club Rimini, and Vela Club Portocivitanova.

The Royal Ocean Racing Club will field two teams, including James Neville’s TP52 Ino Veritas and Peter Harrison’s IRC 52 Jolt 3. Niklas Zennström’s Carkeek 41 Rán, the reigning IRC European champion, will also compete with Adrian Stead on tactics.

The Yacht Club Repubblica Marinara di Pisa team includes Roberto Lacorte’s WallyRocket 51 Rocket Nikka alongside the Fast40+ Nola. Germany’s Bayerischer Yacht Club will race with Carl-Peter Fortes’ TP52 Red Bandit, winner of the 2024 Rolex Middle Sea Race and 2023 Rolex Giraglia.

Hosts Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will field Django WR and Django JP, both owned by Giovanni Lombardi Stronati. Guillermo Parada, Vasco Vascotto, Alberto Bolzan and Michele Ivaldi are among the high-profile names confirmed onboard.

Organisers said the regatta’s return marks a significant moment for offshore racing in the Mediterranean and for Porto Cervo’s international sailing calendar.
