Howth's Eve McMahon has won Gold at the LA Grand Slam in the ILCA 6 class. This victory marks a significant step towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The event, part of World Sailing’s Grand Slam series, took place off Long Beach, California. This location will host the Olympic sailing competition in just three years.
Starting the final day in second place, McMahon excelled in the opening race to take the lead in the 44-boat fleet. She successfully navigated a match race against Great Britain's Hannah Snellgrove to secure her first Grand Slam victory.
“I’m delighted to win here in LA,” said McMahon. “Racing on the future Olympic waters is really motivating."
This Gold follows her Bronze Medal win at the ILCA 6 World Championships earlier this year. It also comes as she was ranked No. 1 by World Sailing last month.
McMahon's brother, Ewan, finished 17th, while fellow Olympian Finn Lynch secured eighth place at the event.
Next, the focus shifts to the ILCA European Championships in Marstrand, Sweden, scheduled from 9th to 16th August an event in which McMahon’s teammate Finn Lynch won Bronze just last year in the men's fleet.
