Irish sailors Finn Lynch and Ewan McMahon are firmly in contention ahead of the final race at the Sail Melbourne 2025 ILCA 7 regatta in Australia.
Lynch, sailing for the National Yacht Club, sits in third place overall with 30 net points after nine races. His results include four top-three finishes and a strong comeback after a DNC in race three.
McMahon, representing Howth Yacht Club, is fifth on 42 net points. He has shown steady form throughout the series, finishing in the top 10 in seven of nine races.
Both of the Irish sailors are in a race for the single Irish berth at LA2028 in the men's singlehanded class.
Australia’s Matt Wearn leads the fleet with 11 net points, followed by Zac Littlewood with 23. The final medal race is scheduled for Sunday, 30 November.
Hosted by Royal Brighton Yacht Club on behalf of Australian Sailing, the regatta is using the new Olympic format, which concludes with a high-stakes medal race.
“This format really puts pressure on consistency,” said one insider. “It’s ideal prep for the Olympic cycle.”
The event wraps up Sunday, with medals and final rankings to be decided on the water.
