Finn Lynch may have been disappointed that his home ILCA 7 World Championship on Dublin Bay did not produce the medal he wanted, but eighth overall in the 141-boat fleet was another remarkable demonstration of his consistency at the very top of world sailing. Since taking World Championship silver in 2021, Lynch has now finished sixth in 2022, ninth in 2024 and eighth in 2026 – three more top-ten finishes in what is arguably the hottest fleet in international sailing.
The Carlow sailor himself readily admitted that eighth on home waters was not the result he had hoped for, but maintaining that level across successive world championships is an achievement in itself, and makes his Dublin Bay performance worthy of recognition.
