Irish Olympic sailors Finn Lynch and Eve McMahon were on board boat number 36 during Friday's Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony, the most unique Opening Ceremony ever staged.
Led by flagbearers Sarah Lavin and Shane Lowry, the 26-strong Team Ireland contingent took centre stage cruising along the River Seine, proudly dressed head to toe in their custom Laura Weber-designed Team Ireland suits.
A fleet of 85 boats carried more than 6500 athletes along the Seine, floating past the major sites of Paris and finishing with a laser show at the Eiffel Tower.
The other Irish sailors, the Irish 49er skiff duo of Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove, who will be in action in Marseille on Sunday, were not onboard the Irish boat on the River Seine.
Taekwondo athlete Jack Wooley, boxers Michaela Walsh, Jenny Lehane, and Daina Moorhouse, sailors Lynch and McMahon and their coaches, and Chef de Mission for the Games Gavin Noble were among those representing Ireland on boat #36.
Further Team Ireland athletes from Canoe Slalom, Equestrian, Badminton, and Diving, were also on board with support staff members for this once-off spectacle on the Seine.
Team Ireland will feature in ten sports on the opening day of Paris 2024.
