It takes guts to agree that your two-man campaign in a premier Olympic buildup regatta is so far out of sync at mid-event that it’s best to withdraw, and go off with your trainer for a high-powered re-set session at a hidden venue.

But this is precisely what 49er Skiff sailors Rob Dickson and Sean Waddilove did when it was clear the wheels were coming off their sailing in the midst of the high-profile Princess Sophia Regatta at Palma.

They came out of intensive training seclusion for the French Olympic Classes Regatta in Hyeres at the end of April and showed themselves to be a transformed team, finishing with the Silver Medal.
