Daniel Copithorne and Matt Mapplebeck of Royal Cork Yacht Club (RCYC) won the 420 Southerns 2026 after strong winds forced the cancellation of Sunday racing in Cork Harbour.
Sailing at RCYC, the pair secured overall victory on countback following four races completed on Saturday.
The championships kicked off the 2026 summer sailing season at Crosshaven in brisk conditions.

Copithorne and Mapplebeck finished tied on four points with Sean Lemonnier and Killian Mathieu (GBSC) but claimed the title with two race wins to their rivals’ one.
Copithorne and Mapplebeck posted a consistent series of 2, 1, and 1 after discard, holding firm in a tightly contested Gold fleet.
Lemonnier and Mathieu opened strongly with two race wins but were edged into second after a third-place discard.
Caoimhe Corkery and Riona McMorrow Moriarty (TBSC) completed the podium on 12 points. A second-place finish in the final race secured third overall.
The regatta was reduced to a single day after organisers abandoned Sunday’s planned racing due to strong winds.
A total of 21 boats competed, with one discard applied under Appendix A scoring.
Results (below) remain provisional as of 18:59 on 28 March 2026.
