Stig has won the opening round of the Cape 31 Mediterranean circuit in Porto Cervo. The Italian team, owned by Alessandro Rombelli, secured victory after three days of close racing organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Fourteen teams competed in the one-design fleet designed by Mark Mills.

Racing began on Friday in light winds, with Django setting the early pace. Helmed by Vittorio Lombardi Stronati, Django posted consistent results to lead after day one.

Conditions remained light throughout the regatta, with winds peaking at 10 knots. Stig moved into contention on day two, winning three of four races to take control of the standings. Shotgunn, skippered by Michael Wilson, remained close behind.

The final day saw further delays as the fleet waited for the breeze to fill in. Two races were completed to reach the nine-race series limit. La Pericolosa won the first race of the day, while Django took the final race victory. Despite finishing ninth in the penultimate race, Stig secured the overall win with a fourth-place finish in the finale. Shotgunn finished second, with Kalantis third overall.

Speaking after racing, Alessandro Rombelli said, “We are very pleased to have secured victory in the first round of the season." “It has been a positive week for our team and an equally demanding one, with challenging weather conditions." “Everything came down to the final race today, which shows just how competitive this class is.”

Team Chocolate topped the Corinthian division. Yacht Club Costa Smeralda Sports Director Giorgio Benussi said: “These have been three intense and hard-fought days. “The Race Committee ensured the full programme was completed despite particularly light wind conditions.”

The Cape 31 circuit now moves to Puntaldia and Bonifacio for the next rounds.
