The Irish multihull sailing scene is entering 2026 with renewed energy, a new leadership team and a nationwide racing calendar.
The Irish Multihull Association (IMA) says the season will focus on competitive racing, participation growth and stronger youth pathways.
Pawel Trojanowski has been appointed to lead the association into the new season. He said the strategy combines high-performance racing with “try-a-sail” initiatives to widen access to the sport.
The 2026 calendar opens in May at Blessington Sailing Club with the Inland Open Championships. The inland venue is known for variable gusts that test crews early in the season.
June sees racing move east to Swords Sailing and Boating Club for the Eastern Championships. The event includes the Donny McKay Trophy and the Hurricane 5.9 national title.
The fleet heads north in August for the Northern Championships at Ballyholme Yacht Club. A long-distance “Lough Raid” will form part of the programme.
September’s Irish Open Nationals will take place at Antrim Boat Club. The season concludes in October at Galway Bay Sailing Club with the Western Championships and Dart Nationals.
International competition also features, with Irish crews set to compete at the F18 European Championships on Lake Como in July.
A family-focused weekend is planned for Lough Derg later in the summer, aimed at broadening participation.
The IMA said the season reflects both tradition and innovation, with boats ranging from Dart 16s to modern F18 catamarans.
