Howth's Daragh Sheridan won the RS Aero Westerns on Lough Derg

12 RS Aeros joined the RS400, 200 & Feva classes as part of RS fest for their Western championship in Dromineer on July 6/7th.

Three races were held in challenging blustery conditions on Saturday. Sunday was a complete contrast, and despite the best efforts of the Race Officer the wind faded away completely, and no racing was possible with the championship being decided on Saturday's racing.

A novel feature of the event was the use of GPS robotic marks provided by the sponsor, Kenny Rumball of Irish Marine Services. Despite the fluctuating winds and multiple classes, this allowed for flawless courses.

RS Aero Western results

  1. Daragh Sheridan Howth YC
  2. Roy Van Maanen Greystones SC
  3. Thomas Chaix National YC

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
