The educational, career and family-starting demands of modern life are such that many sailing enthusiasts find they have very little time, resources and energy left for their favourite sport when they should be enjoying it fully. Not least among these are the demands of owning and running your own boat.
With this in mind, Alan Algeo of Lough Ree YC and other senior spirits in the class have come up with the idea of an annual regatta restricted to the under-30s in this lively 104-year-old class. It will alternate between Lough Derg and Lough Ree, and will be inaugurated this weekend (29th-30h August) at Lough Ree, with current entry numbers at 26: 9 from LDYC and the rest from LRYC, with room for more.
