Ruby Blue Tops Unofficial Squib Ladder as Kinsale Fleet Grows

Royal Irish Yacht Club’s Aidan O’Connell and Sam Hunt have taken Ruby Blue to the top of the unofficial Irish Squib Ladder following the Frank Clarke Ltd-sponsored Squib Southern Championships at Kinsale Yacht Club.

The latest Ladder, compiled by Vincent Delany following the 26-boat Kinsale event, has produced significant changes towards the top of the 64-boat ranking.

Ruby Blue now leads on 22 points, having added a second place at the Southern Championships to an already consistent set of results during the events included in the Ladder.

Femme Fatale Holds Second

Vincent Delany and Joe O’Byrne’s Femme Fatale did not compete at Kinsale but remain second overall on 41 points.

Kinsale Yacht Club’s Ian Travers and Keith O’Riordan continue their climb in Atomic, moving from fourth to third on 45 points.

The Kinsale pair won the Irish National Championship at Killyleagh in August and followed that by winning the Southern Championship on home waters.

Howth Yacht Club’s Durt also moves up one place, despite not competing at Kinsale, and is fourth on 58 points.

Prodigal of Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club, previously second, drops to fifth on 61.

Chili Leads Lough Derg Challenge

Josh St John and Alex Minginovic’s Chili remains the leading Lough Derg Yacht Club boat in sixth place on 64 points.

Royal North of Ireland’s Quickstep III holds seventh on 71, while Kinsale’s Crackers is eighth on 73.

Howth Yacht Club’s Kaizen remains ninth, also on 73 points, with Kinsale’s Flora completing the top ten on 82.

One of the biggest advances comes immediately outside the top ten. Killyleagh Yacht Club’s Volante has climbed from 22nd to 11th following the Southern Championships.

Kinsale Fleet Continues to Grow

The expanding Kinsale Squib fleet is strongly reflected in the latest unofficial Ladder, with 18 of its 64 boats — more than a quarter of the entire ranking — carrying the Kinsale Yacht Club name.

Three Kinsale boats are also new arrivals following the Southern Championships: Allegro enters in 33rd place, Kachina in 43rd and Dannger in 64th.

Kinsale also has three boats inside the top ten, headed by Irish and Southern champions Ian Travers and Keith O’Riordan’s Atomic in third. Crackers is eighth and Flora tenth.
