The Dublin Bay Water Wags continued one of the class's longest-standing traditions on Sunday with their annual sailing expedition and picnic on Dalkey Island.
The event, which dates back more than a century, brought together Water Wag sailors and visiting crews from the Norfolk Broads. The visitors sail the famous 'brown boats', traditional craft that share many similarities with the Water Wags.
Tradition Lives – Water Wag sailors, visiting Norfolk Broads crews and the next generation gather beside the medieval church on Dalkey Island during the class's annual picnic, continuing a tradition stretching back to the 19th century
Summer weather provided ideal conditions. Gentle breezes and temperatures in the mid-20s made for a relaxed day's sailing and picnicking on the island.
Reflecting the family spirit of the class, participants ranged in age from just three years old upwards, with another generation of young sailors introduced to one of Dublin Bay's best-loved sailing traditions.
