Owen Laverty’s Red Cloud scored a double victory in Dublin Bay Sailing Club’s Thursday racing on August 20, winning both the J/80 class and the Sportsboat handicap division.
The evening also produced wins for John Treanor’s Valentina in Cruiser Zero IRC, R & T Goodbody’s White Mischief in Cruiser One IRC and Lindsay J. Casey’s Windjammer in Cruiser Two IRC.
Valentina Tops Cruiser Zero on IRC and ORC
John Treanor’s J/112E Valentina won Cruiser Zero under both IRC and ORC.
On IRC, Valentina beat Chris Power Smith’s Aurelia by 23 seconds on corrected time, with Tim Kane’s WOW third.
ORC produced a slightly different order behind the winner. El Pocko, a Puma 42, was second, 51 seconds behind Valentina, with Aurelia third.
Treanor now switches boats for Friday night’s ISORA race, sailing his NMD 43 Christina as Aurelia seeks to take the Viking Marine Coastal title as Afloat reports here.
White Mischief Wins Cruiser One
R & T Goodbody’s J/109 White Mischief won Cruiser One IRC from Brian Hall’s Something Else, with Fintan Cairns’ Raptor third.
Under ORC, White Mischief again prevailed, but only just. Raptor was second, two seconds behind on corrected time, with Something Else third.
Windjammer Leads Cruiser Two
Lindsay J. Casey’s J/97 Windjammer won Cruiser Two IRC ahead of Brendan Foley’s Allig8R, with Fergus O’Sullivan’s Moonshine third.
The same three boats filled the ORC podium in the same order, Windjammer winning from Allig8R and Moonshine.
Cruiser Three and Five Winners
Gerry Costello’s Pamafe won Cruiser Three on ECHO, beating Michael Ryan’s Saki, with Kevin Glynn’s Grasshopper 2 third.
David Greer’s Vivid headed Cruiser 5A ECHO from Johnnie Phillips’ Playtime, with Colin O’Brien’s Spirit third.
ORC reversed the leading pair in Cruiser 5A, with the Elan 333 Playtime taking the win from Vivid and Boomerang third.
Cruiser 5B produced the evening’s biggest cruiser turnout, with 13 boats finishing or listed in the ECHO results. Gráinne O’Shea’s Gung-Ho won by just three seconds on corrected time from Katherine Sheehan’s The Great Escape, with Gavin Denn’s Setanta third.
Under ORC, Cevantes won Cruiser 5B from Fortitudine, with Gemini third.

Red Cloud Takes J/80 and Sportsboat Double
Owen Laverty’s Red Cloud led a nine-boat J/80 fleet home, ahead of Kevin Byrne’s StarJay and Declan Curtin’s Jester.
Red Cloud then completed the double under the Sportsboat handicap, beating StarJay by just 18 seconds on corrected time. Jester again took third.
Farfalla Heads 14 Flying Fifteen Finishers
Sean Craig’s Farfalla won a strongly supported Flying Fifteen race, with 14 boats finishing.
Ken Dumpleton’s Rodriguez took second and Alan Green’s Mach FFive was third.
Glenluce Wins Glens
Ailbe Millerick’s Glenluce won the Glen race ahead of Myles Fleeton’s Glencoe, with Keith Malcolm’s Glenroan third.
Bandit Wins Ruffian 23s
Ann Kirwan and Brian Cullen took the Ruffian 23 victory aboard Bandit.
Brendan Duffy’s Scéal Eile was second and Frank Bradley’s Ripples third.
Ted Tops SB20s
Michael O’Connor’s Ted won the SB20 race from Barry Glavin’s SeaBiscuit, with the Bolger family’s Gilded Lady third.
Viking Wins Shipmans
Fergus Mason’s Viking took the Shipman victory, one minute ahead of David Freeman’s Twocan.
Gerard Glynn’s Invader was third, followed by Alain Deladienne’s Poppy and John O’Callaghan’s Ruadh.
No Dragon Racing
There was no Dragon racing on Thursday, with some DBSC contenders away contesting the Edinburgh Cup.
As Afloat reports elsewhere, DBSC’s leading boat Cirrus, sailed by Denis Bergin, is leading the Corinthian fleet at the championship.
