Dublin Bay Sailing Club’s final Saturday racing of the AIB 2026 summer season brought a lively finish on 26 September, with fleets racing in south-westerly winds and an ebb tide before the breeze strengthened for the afternoon programme.
The final Saturday schedule featured a mixture of cruiser-racer and one-design fleets, with racing taking place in a flat sea state and winds generally between 14 and 18 knots south-westerly across the various starts.
The day marked the conclusion of the regular DBSC Saturday season, with the club’s final Saturday race of 2026 bringing a competitive end to months of racing on Dublin Bay.
The cruiser-racer fleets also completed their final Saturday racing, with the IRC results available on the day and the provisional ORC results subsequently posted on Sunday morning.
IRC Cruiser Fleet Winners
In IRC Zero, Chris Power Smith’s Aurelia took race victory, corrected ahead of Peter Ryan’s Tsunami.
The IRC One race saw Barry Cunningham’s Chimaera take first place, while John and Brian Hall’s Something Else finished second.
In IRC Two, Lindsay J. Casey’s Windjammer claimed the win, followed by Philip Lovegrove’s Rupert and Jim McCann’s Peridot.
The IRC Three fleet was won by Gerry Costello’s Pamafe, ahead of Wyn McCormack’s Wynward and Frank Guilfoyle’s Papytoo.
ORC Results Added
The provisional ORC results, posted on Sunday morning, complete the picture from the final Saturday of DBSC racing.
In ORC Class 0, Aurelia was the only finisher and took the race win, with WOW, Prima Forte and Valentina recording non-finishing results.
Chimaera won ORC Class 1 from Riders on the Storm and Something Else, while Windjammer took Class 2 ahead of Rupert and Springer.
In ORC Class 5A, Playtime won ahead of Shearwater and Delhiverence, with Just Jasmin fourth.
Calypso won ORC Class 5B from Fortitudine. The remaining boats in the class did not complete the race, with Menapia still showing a pending result in the provisional listing.
One-Design Fleets Close Out Season
The one-design fleets also brought their 2026 Saturday campaigns to a close.
In the Flying Fifteen fleet, two races were completed, with Niall Meagher’s Shadowfax and Keith Poole’s Mike Wazowski among the leading boats across the final results.
The Beneteau 31.7 fleet finished with Chris Johnston’s Prospect taking the final race win. Johnston, fresh from his recent Beneteau 31.7 National Championship success, continued his strong form ahead of Brian Geraghty’s Camira and Eoin O’Driscoll’s Kernach.
The SB20 fleet completed two races, with Team Yikes winning both races in the final session. Colin Galavan’s Carpe Diem and Charlotte O’Kelly’s SneakyB followed with consistent podium finishes.
In the Beneteau 211 fleet, Team Yikes again dominated, taking both race wins, while Patrick Shannon’s Beeswing and Team Capilano’s Capilano shared the remaining podium places.
The Shipman fleet saw Gerard Glynn’s Invader take the final race victory, finishing ahead of Fergus Mason’s Viking and Alain Deladienne’s Poppy.
Strong Finish To Summer Series
The final Saturday races were completed in classic Dublin Bay autumn conditions, with a building south-westerly breeze providing a brisk conclusion to DBSC’s 2026 summer Saturday programme.
The club’s racing calendar continues with other scheduled events, but Saturday 26 September marked the final Saturday season race of the year.
