Gate Mates — Matthew Ahern, Barbra McDonagh, John Sullivan, Oisin Doyle and Paul Ivory at Kinsale Yacht Club for the Arachas Craftinsure Squib Summer Series launch

Kinsale Yacht Club has launched its Squib summer racing season with new sponsorship support from Arachas Corporate Brokers and Craftinsure Ireland. The fleet welcomed representatives from Arachas Craftinsure to the clubhouse during the season launch in bright sunshine on Cork Harbour.

Kinsale Yacht Club Commodore Anthony O’Neill hosted Paul Ivory, Oisin Doyle and Barbra McDonagh during the event. They met Squib Class Captain John Sullivan, Race Officer John Stallard and members of the club’s racing fleet ahead of the new series.

Arachas Craftinsure provides cover for a range of watercraft, including racing yachts, cruisers, ribs and rowing boats, alongside household and motor insurance products.

The sponsorship agreement will support two of the Kinsale Squib fleet’s summer racing series. Weekly racing is due to begin next week and will continue through to the end of the summer season.

Organisers said they hope the sunshine that marked the launch will continue for the opening races on the water.

Kinsale Yacht Club is only a few minutes walk from every shop, hotel, pub and restaurant in Ireland’s gourmet capital but most significantly it is only 30 km by road from Cork, Ireland’s second city, and between the two lies one the region’s main assets - Cork International Airport - with its daily links to many European capitals.

Club members, of which there are more than 600, race Cruisers, One Design Keelboats and Dinghies.

The club runs inshore and offshore races, has an active cruising scene, a powerboat section and most significantly for any real club, a strong and dynamic junior training programme.

Beyond the club’s own marina is the club house itself and the dinghy park. Within the clubhouse are changing rooms, bar and restaurant all with full wheelchair access. The club’s full-time secretariat, steward and marina manager are there to look after sailing visitors and members alike in a relaxed, informal and fun environment.

The club welcomes new members and has always got room on its members’ yachts for new comers to the sport.
