Longtime Laser sailor Dave O’Connell has won Class 1 in Monkstown Bay Sailing Club’s August Dinghy League after the eight-race Cork Harbour series concluded on Friday evening.

O’Connell went into the final night leading Colin Johns by three points and secured the league with a third place in the final race, a result he was able to discard.

O’Connell’s Consistent Series

Eight races were sailed in the August League, with two discards allowed.

O’Connell’s consistency proved decisive. He recorded five second places and one race victory during the series to finish on 11 points.

Fellow Laser sailor Colin Johns took second overall on 14 points.

The Laser II pairing of Judy Moynihan and Therese Loesberg, winners of Monkstown Bay’s July league, completed the Class 1 podium on 15 points.

Jeffers Pair Win Class 2

In Class 2, Eli and Joan Jeffers took overall honours sailing an RS Feva XL.

Harry and Chloe Coole finished second, while Milly Horgan and Lilly Moynihan were third, also racing Fevas.

The Friday evening racing brought Monkstown Bay Sailing Club’s August dinghy series to a close in Cork Harbour.
