Judy Moynihan and Therese Loesberg claimed Monkstown Bay Sailing Club’s September Dinghy League Class 1 after a close final race in Cork Harbour. The Laser II pairing secured overall victory with a final race win on Friday night, 25th of September, finishing one point ahead of Davy O’Connell in his Laser 7, who had led the series going into the deciding race.
As reported by Afloat, O’Connell had carried strong form into the September series after winning the opening races and building an early lead in Class 1. The Laser 7 sailor had also taken victory in Monkstown Bay Sailing Club’s August Dinghy League, continuing a strong run in the club’s Friday evening racing programme.
The September Class 1 league remained tightly contested throughout, with Moynihan and Loesberg staying within reach of the lead before producing the decisive result in the final race. Their victory adds another Monkstown Bay league title to their season after the pair also won the club’s July Dinghy League during the summer series.
Paul Swanton, sailing another Laser 7, secured third overall in Class 1.
In Class 2, Eli and Joan Jeffers won their section, with Conor and Muireann Flannery finishing second and Jack Ryan and Dara O Suilleabhain third. All three leading Class 2 boats were sailing RS Feva XLs.
The October Dinghy League is the next event at Monkstown Bay Sailing Club, starting on Saturday 3 October. The open event will feature five races.
