Dave O’Connell has carried his winning form from August into Monkstown Bay Sailing Club’s September Dinghy League, taking victory in the second race of the series on Friday night.

Sailing his Laser 7, O’Connell has won both races sailed so far and leads Class 1 on two points.

As previously reported by Afloat.ie, the latest results follow O’Connell’s victory in Monkstown Bay’s August Dinghy League, when he won Class 1 after an eight-race series. Dave O’Connell finished that series on 11 points, three clear of fellow Laser sailor Colin Johns.

Barry Fireball Chases Leader

O’Connell has a three-point advantage in the September standings over the Fireball sailed by Ewen and Thea Barry. The Barry pairing are on five points after recording second and third places in the opening two races.

Two boats share third place on six points: Paul Swanton in another Laser and the Laser II pairing of Judy Moynihan and Therese Loesberg.

Moynihan and Loesberg were third in the August Class 1 series, having previously won Monkstown Bay’s July league.

Twelve boats are competing in Class 1 in the September series.

Three-Way Tie in Class 2

Class 2 has an even tighter contest, with three RS Feva XL crews tied on five points at the top.

Eli and Joan Jeffers, Harry and Chloe Coole, and Conor and Muireann Flannery share the lead after the opening two races. The Jeffers pairing are also carrying strong form into September, having won Class 2 in the August league ahead of the Cooles.

With two races completed, both classes remain closely contested as Monkstown Bay’s September series continues in Cork Harbour.
