The Crosshaven RNLI Station recently hosted a group of coaches from the Royal Cork Yacht Club for a special briefing and tour in Cork Harbour.
The RNLI team, including Patsy Fegan, Daryl Hughes, Hugh Mockler, James Fegan, Ian Venner, and Susanne Deane, provided an in-depth overview of the station's operations, including how the lifeboat is engaged, activated, and launched. With an impressive forty-one active volunteers comprising shore crew, operations, and boat crew, the RNLI team showcased their dedication and expertise.
During the visit, the coaches had the opportunity to see the lifeboat up close and gain a detailed understanding of its capabilities. They were impressed by the lifeboat's advanced equipment, including directional detection technology that enables it to locate small craft even in challenging conditions such as dense fog or darkness.
The interactive question-and-answer session between the coaches and the RNLI crew provided valuable insights and reassurance about the support available to sailors under the coaches' care, particularly during the winter sailing programmes for Optimist, Laser, 420, and mixed dinghies. The presence of the RNLI as a reliable resource year-round was emphasised, providing peace of mind to sailors and the local community.
