The Royal Cork Yacht Club will host the 11th annual dinghy race on Saturday, 29th March 2025. This highly anticipated Cork Harbour season opener is sponsored by Crosshaven House, a partnership that began in 2023.
The race is planned for high tide, with organisers aiming to hold it on the river if conditions permit. “This event is a splendid opportunity to prepare your boat for the season ahead,” said event spokesperson, Alex Barry.
The format features a pursuit race, where boats start based on speed, from slowest to fastest. The first boat across the finish line will be declared the winner, similar to the renowned ‘Bloody Mary’ race in London.
A total prize fund of €1,000 will be distributed as follows: €700 for the winner, €200 for second place, and €100 for third. Additional prizes will celebrate achievements such as the youngest sailor, first female helm, and both youngest and oldest combined crew ages.
