The Royal Cork Yacht Club dinghy season kicked off on Saturday, March 29th with the annual Crosshaven House PY1000, now a firm favourite in the Crosshaven club's calendar.
The dinghy pursuit race saw 35 entries under Race Officer John Crotty, with everything from Toppers to 49ers racing on a sunny afternoon in front of the clubhouse.
The race was won in the final seconds by Alex Barry's National 18 Howlin Mad, crewed by Richie Harrington and Nin O'Leary, with Nin's newly designed Doyle Sails on show.
The winners took a cheque for €700, Eolann Miles from Glandore Harbour SC sailing an ILCA 6 was second, taking home €200, And Royal Cork's Andrew Kingston was third in an ILCA 7 took home 100.
The best looking boat went to James Dwyer Mathews and Oisin MacSweeney in a GP14.
The first family went to Maeve and Andy Jenkins in an RS200.
In his acceptance speech, Alex thanked Noel Corcoran of Crosshaven House for his sponsorship and spoke of how his service is so critical to events for the club. Alex also encouraged all fleets to continue to attend, given that previous winners included ILCAs, 420s, 29ers, RS400s, National 18s, ladies, and under 18s.
