Royal Cork Yacht Club's Jack Young and his father Nigel have won the 2026 Yachting World Dayboat (YWDB) National Championship after an outstanding week of racing at Poole Yacht Club in Dorset.
The Crosshaven crew topped a fleet of 36 boats, producing a remarkably consistent series of 1, 1, 3, 2, 1, 1 to claim the title by five points. The championship was sailed in warm sunshine and steady breezes, with competitors enjoying conditions more reminiscent of the Caribbean than the English south coast.
The victory marks Jack Young's second YWDB National Championship, having first lifted the trophy in 2023 when he sailed with regular crew Ellie Aneiros.

This year's success carried extra significance as it completed a family achievement spanning three generations. The championship-winning boat was built by Jack's grandfather, while the North Sails used throughout the regatta were developed and supplied by his father and crew, Nigel Young.
Speaking after securing the title, Jack reflected on what the victory meant.
"It's always very special to win a National Championship, especially when it's in a boat built by my Grandad," he said.
Royal Cork Yacht Club congratulated the Young family on bringing another prestigious sailing trophy back to Crosshaven.
Jack will return to Brixham in 2027 aiming to defend the YWDB National Championship title.
