Sailability Kinsale has expanded its on-water programme by launching two new RIBs and a fleet of kayaks at Kinsale Yacht Club.

The new boats were officially launched on Saturday, June 20, under clear skies in Kinsale Harbour. The initiative aims to make boating and watersports more accessible to people of all abilities, building on Sailability Kinsale's mission of providing inclusive access to the water.

Kinsale Yacht Club Commodore Anthony O’Neill described the occasion as a memorable milestone. “Some mornings on the water stay with you. This was one of them,” he said.

The launch attracted a strong attendance from supporters, volunteers and local representatives. Guests included Senator Noel O’Donovan, Councillor Marie O’Sullivan, representing the Mayor of the County of Cork, Cork Sports Partnership CEO Kristine Meenaghan, and Frank O’Brien and Trish MacLernan of the Kinsale Regatta Committee.

The expanded fleet was made possible through fundraising efforts and support from a range of organisations and donors, including Cork Sports Partnership, the Kinsale Regatta Committee, The Ireland Funds, Provest, Irish Sailing, GF Marine and Kinsale Yacht Club.

Volunteers remain at the heart of the programme. Bernadette Walsh, Donal Hickey and their team were recognised for their ongoing commitment to delivering accessible sailing and boating opportunities throughout the year.

Speaking after the launch, Senator O’Donovan praised the initiative. “A brilliant reminder of how sport, community and inclusion can come together to create something special,” he said. “The smiles on everyone’s faces are a memory I won’t forget.”

The new RIBs and kayaks will help Sailability Kinsale broaden its activities and welcome more participants onto the water in the years ahead.
