Irish sports clubs are being invited to apply for a share of €130,000 under the sixth annual Texaco Support for Sport initiative.
The 2026 scheme will provide €5,000 to one successful sports club in each of the 26 counties, with applications open until 21 January 2027.
More than €600,000 has been distributed to over 125 clubs since the initiative began, supporting sports ranging from athletics and rugby to diving, kayaking, rowing, sailing-related watersports and swimming.
€5,000 Available in Every County
The scheme is run by Valero Energy (Ireland), which markets fuel under the Texaco brand in Ireland, and is open to properly constituted sports clubs regardless of their size, membership or sporting discipline.
Previous unsuccessful applicants are also eligible to apply again.
Launching this year's scheme, Valero Energy (Ireland) director of Ireland operations James Twohig described sports clubs as “an integral part of communities across Ireland, where people of all ages can enjoy the many physical, social and personal benefits that sport brings”.
He said the company hoped the funding would help clubs continue their work and meet their individual ambitions and challenges.
Donncha O'Callaghan Leads Adjudication
Former Irish rugby international and broadcaster Donncha O'Callaghan will again lead the adjudication process as Texaco Support for Sport ambassador.
“What makes the Texaco Support for Sport initiative so worthwhile is that every club has an equal opportunity to secure funding, regardless of its size, sporting discipline or competitive success,” O'Callaghan said.
He highlighted the potential benefit for smaller clubs and minority sports, saying the grants could be used to improve facilities, encourage participation and strengthen clubs' roles within their communities.
Applications Close in January
Applications are now open through Texaco Support for Sport.
Applicants are asked to outline their sporting activities, their importance to their local community, why funding is required and how the €5,000 award would be used.
Clubs must be properly constituted and hold a valid Games and Sports Exemption Number appearing on the list published by the Revenue Commissioners on 2 July 2026.
The closing date for applications is 21 January 2027, with adjudication to follow.
