The Key Yachting team will be at the South Coast Boat Show in Southampton this weekend, displaying the newest models from Nautitech Catamarans and J/Boats.

The South Coast Boat Show will be open from Friday 21 to Sunday 23 April in Southampton’s Ocean Village Marina.

This year the South Coast and Green Tech Boat Shows will be combined for the first time so there will be plenty to see — including the latest from J/Boats and Nautitech.

The 2023 show will see the UK and Ireland premiere of the Nautitech 44 Open. It was recently awarded European Yacht of the Year 2023 in the Multihull category and was named among SAIL Magazine’s Top 10 Boats for 2023.

The Nautitech 44 showing in Southampton is straight from the Nautitech Shipyard in La Rochelle — don’t miss the chance to see this fantastic new performance catamaran in the UK.

In addition, the first British J/45 will be displayed at the show. Hull #5 has a three-cabin, two-head layout and has just recently been commissioned in Hamble.

The new J/45’s leading-edge hull design meets refined interior design to raise the bar on cruising comfort and performance like no J before it.

Key Yachting is expecting a high level of interest and appointment slots for both the J/45 and N44 are filling up so we recommend making an appointment in advance to be able to get onboard.

There are regular direct flights from Dublin to Southampton with Aer Lingus and the Ocean Village is a short taxi ride from the airport so getting to the show is easy.

Tickets for the event are free but do need to be booked online. Viewing appointments can be booked via the Exhibitors page or by contacting Irish agent Mark Mansfield at [email protected] or +353 87 250 6838.

The Kay Yachting team will also be available to discuss any other models from Nautitech and J/Boats along with other brands Grand Soleil Yachts and Tofinou.

Mark Mansfield, Key Yachting agent for Ireland, reports very high interest levels in the four yachts on show at Southampton Boat Show from Key Yachting's four different brands.

Key Yachting is the agent for J Boats, Grand Soleil, Nautitech Catamarans and Tofinou dayboats.

On display is the Nautitech 46 Catamaran, sold this year to an Irish client, and is based in Schull, West Cork (see photo above).

The featured Grand Soleil 42LC in Southampton is a long-distance comfortable cruiser.

The J/99 from J Boats is similar to the winning Sovereigns Cup J/99, Snapshot.

Finally, Key Yachting is also exhibiting the beautiful Tofinou 10 daysailer.

The show concludes next Sunday, so there is still time for Interested Irish clients to fly over and book a visit on one of these models listed above.

Britain's biggest boating festival, the Southampton International Boat Show at Mayflower Park, is coming soon, 10-19 September 2021. With Government travel restrictions having lifted, those double-vaccinated can enjoy a trip "abroad" by visiting Southampton, which is currently competing for the UK City of Culture award 2025.

The show features everything the leisure marine industry has to offer. Ranging from paddleboards to superyachts and all the products and services you need to enjoy life in, on or around the water – you will find it at the show.

The Key Yachting team will proudly showcase three exceptional boats for this year's event, the Nautitech Open 46 (4 cabins), J/99 and Grand Soleil 42 LC (2 cabins).

The Nautitech Open 46 (4 cabins) is an excellent catamaran offering cruise, volume, speed, comfort, and a sleek and elegant design. The living room and the cockpit have been merged to gain space - it's the essence of the "Open" concept. The living room of the Open 46 offers beautiful volumes, like an invitation to enjoy daily life in an exquisite and warm atmosphere. The interior is chic, made of dark wood with bright natural light and neat details in stainless steel. Come and be inspired by this elegant boat.

The J/99 does it all - combining excellent sailing performance and stability with below-decks comfort in a boat that just one or two people can sail. The deck layout and sail plan are optimised for easy handling, while the roomy cockpit accommodates 8+ for fun day sailing. Want to jump into the next adventure-style overnight race or cruise rally and can't find crew? No problem. The J/99 will reward you with easy, high-speed sailing, whether solo, twin, or with the whole gang.

The J/99 is a standout and a new boat into Ireland, with "Snapshot" owned by Michael and Richard Evans winning its class in a competitive fleet at the Sovereigns Cup 2021, one of Ireland's biggest regattas.

The Grand Soleil 42 LC (2 cabin) is a model of the Blue Water line. This boat offers comfort, generous spaces and sailing autonomy. The 42 LC is available in two versions: standard or sport. The former is equipped with aft benches and a carbon arch over the cockpit, designed to keep this area free of the mainsheet traveller. This boat is a fantastic pedigree and a premium brand, always offering good performance and speed, even in cruising models.

The latest Nautitech 40 Catamaran video release describes how catamarans are becoming more popular in Northern Europe, not just in warmer climates.

Mark Mansfield is the Irish Agent for Key Yachting, whose brands include Nautitech Catamarans.

In the video interview below between Journalist Matt Sheehan and Key Yachting's Hannah Le Provest at Southampton's recent South Coast Boat Show, they discuss how these new styles of catamarans are becoming very popular in the UK and Ireland. A new 46-foot Nautitech version will be arriving into Ireland soon.

Whether discovering the quiet Bays of West Cork and Kerry or further afield to the Scottish Firths, the steadiness of a catamaran under sail, allied to the massive interior volume, is finding a lot of support, particularly among couples and families.

Irish Sailing Club of the Year Award

This unique and informal competition was inaugurated in 1979, with Mitsubishi Motors becoming main sponsors in 1986. The purpose of the award is to highlight and honour the voluntary effort which goes into creating and maintaining the unrivalled success of Ireland's yacht and sailing clubs.

In making their assessment, the adjudicators take many factors into consideration. In addition to the obvious one of sailing success at local, national and international level, considerable attention is also paid to the satisfaction which members in every branch of sailing and boating feel with the way their club is run, and how effectively it meets their specific needs, while also encouraging sailing development and training.

The successful staging of events, whether local, national or international, is also a factor in making the assessment, and the adjudicators place particular emphasis on the level of effective voluntary input which the membership is ready and willing to give in support of their club's activities.

The importance of a dynamic and fruitful interaction with the local community is emphasised, and also with the relevant governmental and sporting bodies, both at local and national level. The adjudicators expect to find a genuine sense of continuity in club life and administration. Thus although the award is held in a specific year in celebration of achievements in the previous year, it is intended that it should reflect an ongoing story of success and well-planned programmes for future implementation.

Over the years, the adjudication system has been continually refined in order to be able to make realistic comparisons between clubs of varying types and size. With the competition's expansion to include class associations and specialist national watersports bodies, the "Club of the Year" competition continues to keep pace with developing trends, while at the same time reflecting the fact that Ireland's leading sailing clubs are themselves national and global pace-setters

Irish Sailing Club of the Year Award FAQs

The purpose of the award is to highlight and honour the voluntary effort which goes into creating and maintaining the unrivalled success of Ireland's yacht and sailing clubs.

A ship's wheel engraved with the names of all the past winners.

The Sailing Club of the Year competition began in 1979.

PR consultant Sean O’Shea (a member of Clontarf Y & BC) had the idea of a trophy which would somehow honour the ordinary sailing club members, volunteers and sailing participants, who may not have personally won prizes, to feel a sense of identity and reward and special pride in their club. Initially some sort of direct inter-club contest was envisaged, but sailing journalist W M Nixon suggested that a way could be found for the comparative evaluation of the achievements and quality of clubs despite their significant differences in size and style.

The award recognises local, national & international sailing success by the winning club's members in both racing and cruising, the completion of a varied and useful sailing and social programme at the club, the fulfilling by the club of its significant and socially-aware role in the community, and the evidence of a genuine feeling among all members that the club meets their individual needs afloat and ashore.

The first club of the Year winner in 1979 was Wicklow Sailing Club.

Royal Cork Yacht Club has won the award most, seven times in all in 1987, 1992, 1997, 2000, 2006, 2015 & 2020.

The National YC has won six times, in 1981, 1985, 1993, 1996, 2012 & 2018.

Howth Yacht Club has won five times, in 1982, 1986, 1995, 2009 & 2019

Ireland is loosely divided into regions with the obviously high-achieving clubs from each area recommended through an informal nationwide panel of local sailors going into a long-list, which is then whittled down to a short-list of between three and eight clubs.

The final short-list is evaluated by an anonymous team based on experienced sailors, sailing journalists and sponsors’ representatives
