The all-or-nothing public attitude to Olympic competition and its medals tends to double-down on the frustration that accompanies fourth place. Yet the sailing community are very aware that the fourth place held by Ireland's 49er crew of Rob Dickson and Sean Waddilove at the conclusion of the Medals Race at Marseille was one of the lowest overall placings they'd held during a series in which they had mainly been among the top three overall, with brilliant racing that deserves full recognition as one of Ireland's best ever Olympic sailing achievements.
