RTÉ News reports that investigations are under way after a diver died in an incident off Co Donegal on Saturday (22 June).

Patrick Doran (49) from Carrick-on-Shannon got into difficulty while on a scheduled dive as part of the North West Dive Rally in Teelin Bay.

Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Doran’s dive partner, a man in his sixties, was airlifted to University Hospital Galway which has a chamber for treatment of decompression sickness, aka ‘the bends’.

Some 100 divers from sub aqua clubs around Ireland were taking part in the North West Dive Rally, which was cancelled in the wake of the incident. RTÉ News has more on the story HERE.
