Coast Conqueror — Daragh Morgan, Round Ireland swimmer and Outsider of the Year, honoured in Dublin after completing his 1,500km Swim Éire circumnavigation of Ireland’s coastline.

Round Ireland swimmer Daragh Morgan has won the top honour at the 2026 Outsider Awards in Dublin.

Morgan, previously featured on Afloat.ie, was named Outsider of the Year at The Helix in DCU on 11 February.

In 2025, he became the first person to complete a staged 1,500km swim around Ireland’s entire coastline.

His Swim Éire challenge saw him cover up to 17km per day while living aboard a small support vessel for months. The circumnavigation is regarded as one of the most significant endurance swims ever completed around the island.

The Outsider Awards recognise individuals and organisations shaping Ireland’s outdoor community across adventure, accessibility, environmental action and leadership.

We've got a favour to ask

More people are reading Afloat.ie than ever thanks to the power of the internet but we're in stormy seas because advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. Unlike many news sites, we haven't put up a paywall because we want to keep our marine journalism open.

Afloat.ie is Ireland's only full-time marine journalism team and it takes time, money and hard work to produce our content.

So you can see why we need to ask for your help.

If everyone chipped in, we can enhance our coverage and our future would be more secure. You can help us through a small donation. Thank you.
