Open-water swimmers from Ireland and overseas will return to Drogheda on Saturday, 1 August, for the 2026 Boyne Swim. Now in its 12th year, the event has become one of Ireland's best-known river swims, attracting participants seeking competition, personal achievement and a unique open-water experience.

Swimmers will tackle a 2.7-kilometre course on the River Boyne, starting at Oldbridge/Upper Mell and finishing at the Boyne Fishermen's Rescue and Recovery Service headquarters. The route takes competitors through the heart of Drogheda, offering a rare opportunity to experience one of Ireland's most historic waterways from the water.

The event is organised by volunteers from Drogheda Triathlon Club, with support from Drogheda Port Company and a range of safety organisations. Local renewable energy company Lennon Solar is sponsoring this year's swim.

Speaking on behalf of Drogheda Port Company, Paul Fleming said: "The Boyne Swim is about much more than swimming. It's about community spirit, tradition, heritage and celebrating the wonderful natural asset that is the River Boyne." "Every year we are inspired by the enthusiasm of our participants and volunteers, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the River Boyne on 1 August 2026," he added.

Organisers say the event offers swimmers of all abilities the chance to enjoy a safe and memorable challenge in one of Ireland's most distinctive open-water settings.
