Dundalk native and Mornington resident Claire Corcoran has claimed silver at the World Virtual Indoor Rowing Championships.
Racing at 14:53 on Saturday, 28 February, Corcoran finished second in the women’s 45–49 age category. In the process, she set a new Irish record for the fastest female one-minute row, covering 341 metres.
Corcoran, a member of Inver Colpa Row Coastal Rowing Club in Drogheda, was one of six finalists worldwide to progress through the heats to Saturday’s decider.
Athletes competed remotely from homes, gyms and clubs across the globe. Each rower was connected virtually via Concept2 machines, racing in real time within their respective age and weight categories.
Corcoran was supported by family and Inver Colpa clubmates at her race base at Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue on Marsh Road, Drogheda.
Inver Colpa Row Club also acknowledged the efforts of members Lisa-Marie Campbell and Martin Murphy, who trained and competed in their respective age categories.
