Rowing crews have been confirmed for the 76th Dublin City Colours Boat Races, set for Saturday, March 21st, on the River Liffey.

The annual contest will see eights from Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin race head-to-head through the capital.

Racing starts at 10.30 am, with four contests across senior and novice categories. Crews will cover a 2km upstream course from O’Connell Bridge to St James’s Gate, passing under eight bridges.

UCD will aim for five consecutive wins in both senior races. In the Gannon Cup, Trinity will seek to prevent their rivals from taking the outright series lead for the first time since 1976, with both sides level on 37 victories.

UCD’s senior men also impressed in Enniskillen, recording a course record of 17:37.

Station choices were decided by coin toss. Trinity selected the South station for women’s races, while UCD chose the North station for the men’s events.

The Gannon Cup, first raced in 1947, honours UCD captain Ciaran Gannon. The Corcoran Cup, introduced in 1980, became an eights race in 1993.

Additional races include the Dan Quinn Shield for novice men and the Sally Moorhead Trophy for novice women. Trinity has won the last five novice men’s races and also claimed the novice women’s title last year.

The event is now titled the Dublin City Colours Boat Races following a new multi-year partnership with Dublin City Council.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of Dublin University Ladies Boat Club, founded in 1976.
