The Government has initiated an independent review of Rowing Ireland’s high-performance system. As The Irish Independent reports, the review will be led by consultant Amanda Bennett, who conducted an investigation into women’s rugby in Ireland.

Announcing the move, Minister for Sport Patrick O’Donovan and his junior minister, Charlie McConalogue, said the review would focus on “the organisational culture of Rowing Ireland’s high-performance programme”. It would also focus on “its interactions… with Sport Ireland”.

Working with Bennett will be Kathryn Ball, a high-performance consultant and former British rower who competed in the 1984 Olympic Games. The development follows reports by Paul Kimmage in the Sunday Independent and an Oireachtas committee hearing on the issue earlier this year.
