Rowing Ireland has let go of its high performance director who who oversaw four medal wins across two Olympic Games.
As Sports Joe reports, Antonio Maurogiovanni joined Ireland’s national governing body for rowing in 2017 amid preparations for the 2020 Olympics.
Ireland’s success in Tokyo was repeated this past summer in Paris, when Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy won gold in the men’s lightweight double sculls while Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch took bronze in the men’s double sculls.
Despite these achievements, Rowing Ireland have chosen not to renew Maurogiovanni’s contract. It’s understood the decision relates to impending changes in the Olympic rowing categories for Los Angeles 2028.
