Carrick Rowing Club has appealed for information after one of its boats was badly damaged in an overnight act of vandalism at its base in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.

The club says its octuple rowing boat was removed from its storage rack and dragged across the ground towards the River Shannon before being left hanging over the quay wall.

The incident caused extensive damage to the underside of the boat as well as severe damage to its bow, leaving the craft unusable.

The club estimates that the vandalism has caused thousands of euro worth of damage.

"Equipment like this represents countless hours of hard work, fundraising, and community support, making this damage a massive blow to our rowing club and athletes," the club said.

The incident occurred just two weeks after Carrick Rowing Club staged its annual regatta in the town.

Gardaí Investigating

Carrick Rowing Club has asked anyone who was in the area overnight, noticed suspicious activity or saw anyone on the club grounds to come forward.

Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station is investigating the incident.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact Carrick-on-Shannon Garda Station on 071 965 0510.

The club has also appealed for the public to share its request for information.
