Anchor Easy, a new GPS anchor watch app for iOS and Android, has been launched for sailors seeking long-term anchorage monitoring.
The marine tech application is aimed at boaters who spend extended periods at anchor and want a dedicated monitoring tool.
The app was developed by sailors Dagmar and Marc Schröder, creators of the sailing YouTube channel Leinen Los.
Marc Schröder, a former Google software engineer with 11 years’ experience, led development. The team said the focus was on stability within mobile operating systems and a clear, simple interface.
“Being a sailor myself, I built the app such that it does the things you need in the real world,” Marc said.
“We needed an app that was not only robust in its core function of monitoring the anchor but also simple to operate in the dark, in any situation, and observable from ashore without a complicated setup.”
The user interface was developed with input from Dagmar Schröder, who has a professional background in graphic design.
“It’s important to me that the design is clean and beautiful,” she said.
“An app you rely on for safety should feel calm and intuitive, not cluttered or confusing.”
The app includes alarms for anchor drag, GPS signal loss and low battery levels. Alerts are triggered when predefined limits are exceeded.
A “Boat Group” feature allows remote monitoring from a second device via the internet. This enables crew ashore to check anchor position and alarm status without complex configuration.
For mooring setups involving shorelines or multiple anchors, a “Lines Ashore” mode monitors the vessel’s heading within a defined wedge. This is designed for boats constrained by several fixed points.
Users can set the anchor position by tapping the chart display, pointing from a distance or dragging the anchor icon on the map.
The app also stores previous anchor locations through an automatic history function, allowing sailors to review or return to earlier spots.
Anchor Easy is available free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Additional features are offered through a subscription model.
